Is it possible to download applications (currently in google play)? It seems to be just a mobile phone (that's good too) / Is it in French? thanks

Yes, it's easy! It works via an already installed bypass called Aurora Store and the use of the apps loaded there, if necessary with activation of MicroG, which is also already pre-installed. This allows all Google apps to be loaded.
Of course, by loading Google Apps you also buy all their disadvantages!!! Volla/Android gives you the option of working with multiple user profiles. Whatsapp, as an app that is too nosy and logs user behaviour, is on a different profile for me than my everyday profile, where I mainly work with other apps. There are good alternatives or de-googled versions of many apps in the pre-installed FDroid Store. So you don't have to do without Signal (pre-installed), Telegram, YouTube, Spotify, Twitter, Podcasts (great app: Antenna Podcast), Threema, Shazam etc etc!!!! Volla also has a very active Telegram support channel, where I always get help quickly (users help users, power users involve the manufacturers if necessary).
So far, I've also received good inspiration there, e.g. to switch to the messenger Element,
For me, the x23 is the best phone I've ever had.
And it has already taken several "flying lessons" and survived unscathed. I explicitly wanted a robust mobile that was suitable for outdoor use. And it definitely is! You can also buy a screen protector film. I don't have this. Nevertheless, it hasn't suffered any damage from falls, apart from scratches in the frame.
There are also monthly system updates with the latest security patches. As a user, you have the opportunity to submit requests and report bugs via Github, the forum or Telegram. The noticeable commitment of the manufacturers also gives me confidence that they will maintain the software updates in the long term, even if new Volla phones are likely to be released this year.
Switching from iPhone to Google-free Android was a challenge, but it went well thanks to the support.
Volla's concept also seems to make sense to me. As far as I understand it, they are reworking already certified mobiles with a Google-free Android and a special security system. The option for Volla users to install other operating systems in parallel (Ubuntu etc.) is not for me, but certainly interesting for those interested.

According to the information available on the manufacturer's website, it does not appear to be possible to use Google services with this device.
We don't have access to details of all the languages on offer, but French should be available.
