Redken

Paula Kent co-founded Redken in 1960 and as a young actress in the late 50's, she bleached and colored her hair frequently for her profession. Her big challenge was that her hair was baby fine and her skin was very sensitive. On the set in Hollywood she was constantly allergic to the products used by make-up artists and hair stylists. She visited countless hairdressers and dermatologists, but no one could offer her a solution.

One day Paula had the idea that she could help millions of people with well tolerated and professional products. Paula also believed that hairdressers needed to know the chemical composition of skin, hair and products so that they could help their customers have beautiful and healthy hair.

Together with her hairdresser Jheri Redding she founded the REDKEN brand. In the beginning they sold three products and focused on the education of hairdressers. All products were based on the principles:

Protein technology (the hair consists 70-80% of proteins)
The acid pH of 4.5-5.5, which supplements the natural pH of skin and hair
