The ingenious design of the Powerline Vario X makes it possible to charge almost all Li-Ion battery packs and Li-Po battery packs. Whether it's a battery pack for a digital camera or camcorder, the sliding contacts can be varied accordingly, making the Powerline Vario an all-rounder. Alternatively, it is possible to charge classic NiMH round cell rechargeable batteries of sizes Micro AAA and Mignon AA in pairs. This is an enormous advantage when travelling and on the move, as only one device is required for all batteries.

The voltage and polarity of lithium battery packs are recognised automatically. Reverse polarity, short-circuiting or incorrect insertion of the batteries is therefore impossible. The microcontroller-controlled charging process starts automatically once the battery pack has been connected. In the case of NiMH batteries, the system switches to pulse maintenance charging at the end of charging, thus keeping the batteries fresh and ready for use at all times.
