The ND graduated filter is half transparent and offers a graduated ND gray filter effect on the other half. It allows for precise adjustment of the contrast between the sky and landscape, making it possible to highlight clouds impressively. To facilitate the use of the filters, they can be rotated in the filter holder, allowing the gradient of the filter effect to be easily aligned with the horizon. The transition from one side to the other should not create a visible line across the image. Therefore, B+W employs a special coating process during manufacturing that ensures a smooth transition from the transparent to the ND area while maintaining the sharpness of the image.
