Clear photos succeed up to ISO 1,600. At the higher sensitivities, noise appears more frequently, which is annoying in the Hi-ISO ranges. The Nikon D610 resolves our test chart with 1,725 line pairs (ISO 50) and thus achieves a full 86% of the possible performance.

The Nikon D610 delivers top-quality images and is comparatively inexpensive for a camera with a full-frame sensor. Those who already have the predecessor, the D600, need not fret - in a direct comparison, the D610 is only slightly ahead. Videographers are best off focusing themselves - the otherwise so fast autofocus is simply too slow here.

Distorted subjects. Nikon's full-frame SLR camera for amateurs suffers from the lens sold with it, which distorts significantly at the edge of the image. Connoisseurs speak of distortion. The cause: the camera's full-frame sensor and the 24-85 set lens do not harmonise well. With a better lens, the problem is solved. It's worth it: viewfinder, monitor and flash are perfect.

The camera not only has a very high resolution, but can also maintain this up to an ISO value of 3,200. The model is very fast, especially in continuous shooting. From an ISO value of 6,400, however, clear image errors can be seen. Nevertheless, this is a very good camera at a fair price.

The D610 is excellent in terms of image quality, even in the extremely high ISO range of a maximum of 25,600. In addition, it is excellently equipped for the relatively low price, making it a perfect camera for entry-level photographers. The operation of the Nikon is also very good due to the well-arranged switches and buttons.

The new Nikon has a great image quality with numerous setting options and a price that is more than fair. However, the innovations compared to its predecessor are rather marginal, so that a change is only conditionally recommended. When focusing, it is better not to use the autofocus, as it works slowly.
