This compact and lightweight flash is sealed with the same technology used for cameras and lenses. It is the world's first dust- and splash-proof as well as frost-proof macro tong flash, making it the perfect complement for weatherproof OM-D models and lenses. Whether faced with raindrops or morning dew, the system performs reliably even in harsher environments. The STF-8 provides perfect illumination for macro photography. The light intensity of each flash head can be individually or dual controlled. When using both heads of the flash, the guide number is 8.5; when only one head is used, it is 6. The light intensity ratio of the left and right flash heads can be adjusted from 1:8 to 8:1 using two control dials on the control panel. In addition to precise control in TTL Auto Sync mode, the output power can be fine-tuned in manual mode from 1/1 to 1/128. Full control over flash output helps avoid overexposure, and shadows can be specifically controlled to emphasize the depth of objects. The precise output control also aids in shortening charging times by setting the flash output accordingly.

The flash design allows for the shortest shooting distance that the lens can capture, as the flash heads do not protrude. Additionally, the flash head position can be adjusted between 60° upwards and 40° downwards, and it can be slid along the ring adapter. The flash heads can also be removed from the ring adapter. Remote triggering from the front of the control unit is compatible with the Olympus wireless flash system, which communicates via infrared. The FL-900R and other large flash units can be used for multi-part illumination. Features like Focus Stacking, Focus Bracketing, or the High-Res Shot with OM-D E-M1 Mark II, E-M1, and E-M5 Mark II can also be used with the STF-8. The frame rate is controlled to match loading time and trigger priority during recording.
