Canon iPF PRO-1000 imagePROGRAF

This is my second PRO-1000, the first one I bought elsewhere. After 27 months it was a total loss. The cartridge unit is defective and Canon wants "only" CHF 1160,- for the repair.
I declined the repair because the printer was still printing. After the last firmware update, it stopped printing and simply flushed the ink into the maintenance tank. It has not stopped doing this to this day. Loss at least CHF 150, - for ink and maintenance tank.
I am not alone with these problems and have found other reports on the Internet. In all cases, Canon denies any blame, is not willing to replace the lost ink and maintenance tank, and is in no way accommodating.
They always propagate that the PRO-1000 is a professional device. But I can expect a professional printer to last longer than 27 months. Furthermore, I can expect a certain amount of goodwill from a professional device. A letter to the management of Canon Switzerland has still not been answered after three months. Obviously, Canon does not care about a satisfied customer. Therefore, only two stars.
Why did I buy a PRO-1000 again? The thing has a really good print quality. You don't have to flush the lines every time you switch between black photo and black matte. Paper feeding. Clean feed via the manual feed.
Now if it breaks prematurely again, Canon can go fuck themselves.

The printer is easy to install and get up and running. This includes downloading paper-dependent ICC profiles from the paper manufacturers. Regardless of whether I print on high-gloss, matte or my preferred FineArt papers, the result is thrilling, and that up to A2 format. The display keeps me informed of the printer status or maintenance information at all times. It takes a while until such a print is ready.

super Gertät, easy operation, best expressions, dieverse advantages to Epson 8038 printer such as: ink is not washed away when changing, paper feed is better and more precise solved, more solid processed, Druckköpfe können nicht ausgwechselt werden (at Epson costs the Fr. 1'000.00!!! no joke:/)
I worked 6 years with Epson 8038, I know what I'm talking about. The new Epson SC-P800 SureColor is unfortunately not better than the Epson 8038.

The print is without blame, that was with me the purchase decision. Unlike my semi-professional predecessor model, I didn't have to fiddle around for a long time to get the printout I wanted, load the colour profile from the paper manufacturer and the printout fits straight away. For a printout in highest quality, the Pro Graf is quite comfortable. However, if you don't want to produce large series, this will hardly bother you.
You first have to understand how to use the Chroma Optimiser, if you print directly from Lightroom, white areas are not covered with the Chroma Optimiser. In the Plu-In software for Lightroom and Photo Shop from Canon, however, you can make these settings without any problems.
Unfortunately, a chemical-smelling smell develops during printing, probably because of the pigment inks. I was not aware of this, my previous printer was with Dye ink, this was completely odorless. Fortunately, the smell dissipates relatively quickly after the printing is finished.
The lack of CD printing kept me from giving up my old iP8750 for the PRO-1000 for a long time. Now I'm glad I made the switch. Working with colour profiles makes printing on third party papers a lot easier and the quality of the printouts makes even the last tear of woe dry.

The printer produces excellent print results but I was disappointed with the quality of the first printer. It only lasted 5 years. A repair would probably have exceeded the purchase price according to the service technician, so I had to buy a new one.
Expensive for non-professional use. 5 stars for print quality,

The printer gave good service for 2 years. After that it started to smear. First only on 13x18cm paper, then on A4 paper. This means that the paper is touched by the print head, which scratches the photo. In the meantime, it has reached the point where it shifts the A4 paper Canon photo paper and thus damages it.
For the professional sector, a printer that is scrap after 2 years is not recommended.

The print quality is absolutely superb! Very easy to set up and use
The software used to determine the cost of printing has not been updated since 2016, making it incompatible with high sierra.

If A2 printing is necessary, this printer is certainly recommended. If A3 is normally sufficient, there are certainly alternatives with a better price/performance ratio.

Undoubtedly Canon's have quality as their strong point. This printer has a truly incomparable quality, you can print up to A2 which is no small feat. It only has the drawback of having 12 cartridges, but if you want quality, that's the price you pay.
