Can a monitor be connected directly via Display Port? What is the deal with the "DP IN" sockets? Or is a Thunderbolt to DP adapter required?

DP in is for the output of the graphics card if it is installed. (This is necessary if you want to use the card (e.g. 3070 or similar) via TB/USB).
The Hdmi on the MB is for the improzessor integrated graphics, if it has integrated graphics. So not with xxxF, or xxxKF.
I have used the MB with and without a graphics card. The DP port works.
