Can I also connect the device via network cable to generate a new WLAN source? I'm afraid the repeater would have a very poor connection to my router at the desired location.

An access point (AP) connected via network cable should always be placed before a repeater / range extender.
And a repeater should not be placed where the reception of the existing Wifi is poor.
