The best thing to do is to format the hard disk with exFAT, then reading and writing is no problem for both OS.

It depends on how you format the hard disk. With ExFat, the disk can be read and written by both systems. The only disadvantage is that files must not be larger than 5GB.

A NAS would be the better solution, unless you know that you don't want to store large files on it.
