On a Mac with an Intel processor, I tried with Bootcamp and it works pretty much and with big drawbacks: the order of driver installation matters (especially if the machine already has a dedicated GPU) and the installation obtained at the end is far from perfect. I tried in a virtual machine too, but no, no chance because MacOS doesn't allow a pass trough to the GPU via Thunderbolt. For me the conclusion is simple: apart from a few applications on MacOS that use Metal correctly, don't expect anything special. And the situation gets worse with the arrival of the M1s: it's clear that Apple doesn't really want to deal with Intel CPU platforms anymore. The new M1s don't even support external GPUs anymore. My GPU is now only used to connect an external display to prevent the machine from overheating when connecting a Thunderbolt display directly to it, or to accelerate renders with FinalCut. On the other hand, it works perfectly on a Lenovo X1, either under Windows or Linux.
