Do I understand this correctly? I can connect an external DVD drive to the notebook and play the film with the beamer?

If the notebook has an HDMI connection, you could do that. All devices with an HDMI connection can be connected.

As a tip, however, I would say that the built-in loudspeaker is not very good. I would recommend a better speaker.
