I also had this problem, but I noticed that the devices don't really break. It is usually the case that the two "discs" rotate a little apart. It is usually enough to "realign" the lower and upper parts, e.g. at the space character. Then it works again. If you are interested, I can also create a guide or something similar.

Buy a working vintage Dymo embosser from the 70s/80s with a metal housing and replaceable type discs on Tutti, Ricardo, Etsy or Ebay classifieds.
They really do last for years. I have an occasionally bought Dymo 1575 that works perfectly.
