Yes, USB3 port (so blue inside but USB2 compatible if needed with necessarily lower speed). I was able to make copies at 70-80MB/sec sustained. Formatting is never a problem with external HDDs. I have formatted mine sometimes in NTFS, other times in ext4. No worries (except maybe for the WD backup tools which I never used anyway).
