You would have to check whether your tablet supports USB OTG. It should actually work if there are no driver-related problems.
The fact that it is a pre-paid SIM is not a problem (as long as you have mobile data).
Nevertheless, I would recommend a product like the TP-LINK M7350. It costs a bit more, but it also receives via 3G and 4G. Then the device sets up a WLAN network to which you connect.
Personally, I find this much more practical, especially as you can then connect to several devices (e.g. mobile phone and tablet) instead of making only one device Internet-enabled.
