For some 10G (or 5 Speed), it is explicitly mentioned that CAT 5e cabling is sufficient and does not need to be replaced at great expense. I have not seen a corresponding note or may have overlooked it. Thank you for an answer.

It all depends on the distance between the switch or modem and the device using 10Gb speed, Cat.5/5e cable is designed for 1000BASE-T speed (1Gb), if you have a few metres < 2m, between the 2 objects the loss is irrelevant and you can use for 2.5Gb and 5Gb, but you should better use Cat.6/6A cable up to 100m or Cat. 8.1 up to 30m and it is better to opt for a shorter distance if the distance is not straight (walls, electrical appliances, corners...).
Cat.6/6A/8.1 cables are affordable and safer in terms of speed.
