If you only have 1 PC and want to use two monitors, a KVM switch is not what you are looking for.
You can solve your problem more easily by:
- if you have 2 video outputs on the PC, put one output on each monitor; the operating system offers a mode to distribute/extend the desktop to two monitors. You can either duplicate (this is not what you are looking for) or expand (this is the feature you are looking for) the desktop on most operating systems.
OR
- if there is only 1 video output, use a splitter to split the video signal to several monitors (only works well if the primary video signal offers a very high resolution, i.e. good graphics card); I would advise against this variant, I did not have good results with it
OR
- if there is only one video output, install a second graphics card in the PC; preferably one that already has two outputs, then connect one output to each monitor and set the desired screen mode in the operating system.

The prerequisite is, of course, that you can run both applications at the same time and display them (already on one screen, if necessary with reduced image size) side by side on the desktop. This is normally possible without any problems with modern applications and operating systems ("Windows" describes exactly this possibility).

I bought the KVM switch to run MULTIPLE PCs on the same two monitors with ONLY ONE MOUSE and ONE KEYBOARD --> this is the real purpose of a KVM switch.

Of course, only 1 PC at a time can operate the monitors; however, by pressing a key on the KVM switch or a hotkey on the keyboard, the source (the respective active PC) can be switched quickly and easily.

The prerequisite for all the above-mentioned cases of desktop extension is that the graphics card of the PC supports the resolution of both monitors simultaneously! Be sure to check this before each purchase.

In my case, I use 2 display port outputs of the PC (already available), which are routed to the two inputs of the KVM switch. From the output of the KVM switch, one display port cable goes to each of the two monitors. I do this simultaneously with up to 4 PCs (=sources). In my case, each PC has 2 display port outputs.
