Yes, switching Wi-Fi completely on and off according to a schedule works.
There is a function to block WLAN per device (parental control), but I have not been able to get it to work.
I am now doing this again via FritzBox (i.e. TP-LINK connected to FritzBox, all other settings via FritzBox).
