From my point of view, the device works correctly, but I did not get the desired result with the device either. However, in my case it was probably because I did not need 5.1 or even 7.1 sound, but was hoping for a simple stereo output (i.e. 2.0 or 2.1). My explanation for the failure in my case is that the entire sound volume of 5.1/7.1 is distributed to all connected speakers and the entirety can only be heard again if all devices are really connected in the intended frequency range and spatially correctly positioned. This means that each of the sockets of the Roline unit does not contain the entire sound range, even the FL/FR socket, since "speech", for example, is always output via the "centre". After some tinkering, I therefore bought an alternative: the "Marmitek Connect AE24 UHD Audio Extractorder" (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/marmitek-connect-ae24-uhd-audio-extractor-switch-box-7944666), because it mixes the entire sound range onto one stereo socket - this now works perfectly for my needs.
