How are the product dimensions meant: Is this the printer in width/length in compact version or with everything capped (e.g. paper feed etc.)?

I had only tried out the printer briefly, then forwarded it on. As I can see, there is no difference in length/width, "compact version" and "folded out". As far as I can see, there is nothing to "fold out", except the feeder at the top, and that goes up.
Why don't you take a quick look in a shop? Maybe at Fust, Interdiscount or the like where the machine is on display.
