I am looking for a hard disk as central storage in a home network. Is this hard drive suitable for continuous operation? Because of the power consumption, I would prefer one without a power supply. Which one would be suitable?

Hello, I would recommend a NAS that has 2 or 4 separate hard drives. Defined as RAID 5 or RAID 10, you are on the safe side. Only then can a HD defect be cushioned.
This WD is "only" an ext. disk and also has only one HD. If it fails, the data is gone. Unless you back up the data additionally, e.g. in the cloud. In any case, you should spend a little more than 200 for data security. It's not worth the hassle if you lose data because you saved money.
