I have bought two such hard drives (2TB). Both have only 350 MB of free space when I connect them. What is wrong here?

You must start the software that comes with the HDD. The HDD will then be initialised. Afterwards, the full 2 TB are available and you can delete the LaCie software and handle the hard drives as you wish.
