Question about Panasonic Dmr-Ubc70egk

I would like to slowly transfer my DVDs to my NAS as protection against expiry. Apparently this unit is able to copy DVD content (at least while playing) on the internal HDD. Can I copy the resulting file(s) to my NAS? Can these files also be played afterwards from the NAS by other media players?

The pragmatic answer is no. Because this would circumvent the copy protection of the DVD.
You can record TV programmes, camera content and self-created DVD/BD media, but not original DVDs.
If you can, then only in encrypted form, i.e. data rubbish that only the player can decrypt.

Where did you read that DVD content is saved during playback ?

If you want to keep DVDs safe, try this:
