If I read it correctly, the Canon MF645Cx version can print, scan and copy double-sided. QUESTION: Can it do all this AUTOMATICALLY (print, scan and copy)? Without manual intervention?

Hi, yes, via the ADF, scanning and copying work automatically, from double-sided originals to double-sided copies/PDF's, of course printing too, as well as single-sided originals to double-sided.
