If you have this item, can you connect it directly to the laptop and start right away? (I know, it does not come with a graphics card). Or do you have to make any settings on the laptop or download any software?

I just had to install the graphics card drivers (in my case GeForce Experience). Then everything went smoothly.
When you connect it for the first time, the Razer Synapse installer starts automatically (for controlling the LEDs).
