Helpful answer
I upgraded my Lenovo T520 a few weeks ago, runs without problems. I'm sure it will run on the Lenovo W520 as well, as it has the same RAM support.

The manufacturer states the following:

PC3-8500 DDR3 (1,333 MHz) SO-DIMM
Four SO-DIMM slots

The use of 1,333 MHz SO-DIMM memory is recommended for this system.

1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB
Supports a maximum of 16GB of memory
