Hello, I have also extended the boxes and simply cut the cable shortly after the plug and extended it, this works without any problems.

I'm moving soon and will only connect the new radio then. I'll have the speakers close to the unit and won't put anything on, because I think it's not easy. (But yes, I am no longer the youngest ;-) )
