When will Digitec realise the potential of modern Chromebooks? I share the opinion of 'Chrome unboxed' (US show about the modern Chromebooks, which are popular in the US) that the new 'Acer Chromebook Spin 713' (CP713-2W) is probably the best Chromebook ever at the moment: link below. But I don't understand why Digitec sells it for CHF 850, instead of about USD 650 as in the US. That's not fair + doesn't serve the good reputation of Chromebooks in the US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YSddOL7kgo
Wait and see: Acer announced a price of just under USD 630 for the USA (I5 version ). Now the market launch is somewhat delayed. So let's wait and see ...
The comparison with the competition (Samsung + Asus + Dell + HP) is lame insofar as Acer already announced the 2nd edition with the 2020 model (CP713-2W), while the competition as a whole is somewhat behind.
- This 2nd version was deliberately optimised in terms of price, because the price of just under CHF 1,000 (or just under USD 1,000) for the 2019 model naturally seems excessive for a Chromebook. However, the 2020 model not only has a plastic frame as a concession to the price (compared to an aluminium frame 2019). It also got a bigger screen + other improvements.
- I myself bought the 2019 model + am really happy with it so far. Its screen is really super.
With that in mind, my advice for the US keyboard is to wait for the US launch. That can't take much longer + is then cheaper, including transport + customs, than the Digitec edition at the moment ...
I can't really answer your question, but I looked and the spin 713 i5 costs a good USD 714 in the USA.
But in CHF, including customs duty, that still seems cheaper than in Switzerland. I don't know about Germany. An appeal to Digitec is probably useless, they want to earn money too. But it's a pity that you have to sell it at a higher price. 850 is quite a bit, although the price of the SAMSUNG Chromebook or the Asus 436 is even higher.
But thanks to Chrome unboxed, I'm glad to see that this Chromebook is so strong and good, I don't regret switching to Chrome OS for a second.
