Product details
The realization of a dream and at the same time an exciting experiment in alternative agriculture. How can one manage agriculture in harmony with nature, rather than against it? Keeping soils alive, withstanding heat and drought, protecting biodiversity, and still achieving good harvests? Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and author Daniel Etter has purchased a small farm in northern Spain, fulfilling his dream. It is meant to be a retreat and energy place for the reporter, who often travels to crisis areas. Together with his partner and helpers, he plants olive trees and grows fruits and vegetables using methods of sustainable, regenerative agriculture. In search of role models, Etter embarks on a journey to meet people elsewhere who are experimenting with alternatives to industrial agriculture. In England, he learns about the concept of forest gardening from a pioneer, visits farmers in Germany and Austria, shepherds in France, and cattle breeders in the Black Forest. A narrative thread throughout the book describes the yearly cycle on his farm: planting and care tasks, the struggle with climate change and weather fluctuations, disappointments and joyful moments, and reflections on the path to a better future. The beautifully designed book contains numerous photos by Daniel Etter. Features: with color illustrations.
