Seven LP brand new. He has done it again. At first glance, brand new seems like a huge step: for the first time in 17 years of international career, the Swiss 'Soultrain' is releasing his own German-language songs. The album, featuring five new tracks plus four bonus tracks, appears to be a novelty, but it is actually what Seven has always done – reinventing himself, challenging himself. And excitedly, yet fearlessly, going where it hurts. In this case: dangerously close to himself. If it were calculated, this record would have come out three years ago – instead, brand new is simply the urge of a musician who has never played it safe and has remained almost pathologically curious. On the "Soulmate" tour, where he performed some of these songs live every night and received standing ovations everywhere, he felt he was on the right track – and yet brand new is pure selfishness.
