Twelve-year-old Ellie and her little stepbrother Oleg manage well on their own in their new home far out in the countryside. They look forward to a day without parents and annoying little sister, as the latter has gone back to the city. But when they are still not back in the evening and Ellie can't reach them by phone, the two children start to worry and spend a restless night.
