Product details

Now Kitty speaks: The new graphic novel from the world of Anne Frank, following the groundbreaking success of the "Graphic Diary." Anne Frank's diary made her and her story world-famous. In her family's hiding place, it serves as a comforting friend. Anne writes to Kitty - the only one she can confide her worries, secrets, and fears to. In this new, movingly illustrated graphic novel, Kitty comes to life in the present day. The new heroine reveals Anne's memories and thoughts from the touching perspective of a best friend, making Anne's story accessible to a new generation. As Kitty tries to find out what happened to Anne after the diary ends, an astonishing quest begins through the most devastating chapter of modern history. Anne Frank, born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt am Main, emigrated to Amsterdam with her parents in 1933. After the German Wehrmacht invaded and occupied the Netherlands in 1940, Anne Frank's family, along with four others, hid in the annex of Otto Frank's business. During this time, thirteen-year-old Anne confides her feelings and thoughts to her diary, describing her daily life in hiding and the suffocating fear of discovery. The diary ends on August 1, 1944: the Jewish residents of the annex are denounced and arrested three days later, and the Frank family is deported to Auschwitz and separated there. Anne Frank and her sister Margot die seven months later in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. On January 6, 1945, their mother Edith dies in Auschwitz. Otto Frank, Anne and Margot's father, is the only survivor from the annex. After the war, he receives his daughter's diaries and publishes excerpts from them for the first time in 1947. To this day, the complete version of Anne Frank's diary has been published in over 80 languages.
