Andrè Schuen's two recordings of Schubert's late, great song cycles received fantastic reviews. For 'Die schöne Müllerin', for example, Gramophone wrote: 'magnificent, free voice of the baritone, used with taste and unwavering sensitivity to the text.' The second recording, 'Schwanengesang', was honored in 2023 in the 'Solo Singing' category with an OPUS KLASSIK award. In both recordings, Daniel Heide accompanied on the piano, Schuen's long-time duo partner. Now, Andrè Schuen and Daniel Heide complete their trilogy of Schubert's great song cycles with a moving interpretation of Winterreise. For many, Winterreise is the crowning achievement of the song repertoire. 'It's the first work that comes to mind when talking about song,' says Andrè Schuen, referring to the interplay between movement and stillness in the songs: 'There are images where time seems to completely stand still, states of the soul in harmony with the frozen winter nature. Then again, it drives on and on.'.
