Fatboy The Original Stonewashed
My question is what the situation is like with harmful substances in this product: verbraucherzentrale.nrw: "With beanbags, you should definitely look for harmful substance test seals, as materials are often used that are known to be suspicious of harmful substances. It is important that the whole product is tested for harmful substances, not just the filling material or the cover fabric. Or you can opt for safer materials from the outset, such as cover fabrics with the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) seal and alternative filling materials such as grain husks. Cushions filled with grain fur should always be dry and regularly aired, otherwise there is a risk of mould growth. Most beanbags failed the Ökotest test. Beanbags are filled with polystyrene beads, which can outgas styrene. Styrene can damage the nervous system and irritate the eyes and respiratory tract. In addition, it can probably harm the unborn child. The styrene concentration in indoor air should not exceed 0.030 mg/m3 (precautionary guideline value I of the Federal Environment Agency for indoor rooms). Since polystyrene is highly flammable, flame retardants are often used in it, which can also be harmful to health. Beanbags - especially outdoor beanbags - are also often protected against dirt and moisture. PFCs (per- and polyfluorinated hydrocarbons), which are also harmful to health and the environment, may be used as impregnating agents. According to European chemicals law, you have a right to information from the dealer and the manufacturer about some harmful flame retardants and impregnating agents. You can send your request conveniently by sample letter: "the European Chemicals Agency ECHA has published on your website a list of substances of very high concern which fulfil the criteria of Article 57 of the REACH Regulation and have been identified according to the procedure of Article 59 of the REACH Regulation (http://echa.europa.eu/chem_data/candidate_list_table_en.asp). With reference to Art. 33(2) of the REACH Regulation, I kindly ask you to inform me/us whether any of these substances of very high concern are present in amounts above 0.1% and to provide me/us with the information necessary for safe use. If the product is composed of several articles, please provide me with the above information for each article contained. According to Article 33 of the REACH Regulation, you as a supplier are obliged to provide me as a consumer with this information within 45 days. In the event that no substances of very high concern are contained, I would also ask to be informed accordingly. This would facilitate my purchase decision."
Good day
