Riedel Decanter Escargot

The function of the Escargot decanter is based on a special aeration effect. The first intense contact with oxygen occurs when the wine is poured from the bottle into the Escargot decanter. To fill the Escargot, you bring the decanter from a horizontal to an upright position. The wine is aerated a second time when it is poured from the Escargot decanter into a glass. The unique shape of this decanter introduces fresh air to the already decanted wine for a second time. The second aeration process is visibly marked by a bubbling "gurgle" as the wine flows through the neck of the Escargot decanter. Always hold the decanter by the oval indentation in the belly section.
