Thanks to Galaxus for pointing out that if you are not the owner, you must submit a request to your property management company or landlord, as installing an item such as an air-conditioning unit – even without any alterations or drilling – changes the appearance of the building and is subject to a planning application For my part, I had to remove it after receiving an email from the property management, despite several discussions with them.

Email:

We have read your email of 19 September 2025 and the installation instructions for your Midea PortaSplit unit, and we understand that your installation is temporary and does not require any drilling or permanent fixing. However, we note that this installation was carried out without any prior consultation with the property management, despite the fact that it is visible from the outside and is situated on the roof of the building.

As already mentioned in our letter of 18 September 2025, we would like to remind you that any outdoor installation, even a temporary one, must be approved by the landlord before it is put in place.

We acknowledge receipt of your email regarding your request for authorisation to use your Midea PortaSplit portable air conditioner on a temporary basis during the coming summer.

Having reviewed your request and the information provided, we can confirm that the landlord does not wish to authorise the installation of this equipment on the building’s roof, even on a temporary basis.

Apart from the technical considerations you raise, we note that this installation would involve a unit being visible on the roof and accessible only from your skylight. The landlord considers that such an installation is not compatible with the requirements regarding safety, the preservation of the building’s envelope and the building’s aesthetic appearance.

Despite my insistence, a video and photos proving that the installation is not fixed but remains secure. No.
