Question about Gardena Smart Water Control
According to the instructions, only alkaline-manganese (alkaline) batteries may be used for the Smart Control and the sensor. Has anyone used the whole thing with rechargeable batteries (AA batteries)? That would actually make more sense. What are your experiences? ... and how long does a set of batteries (rechargeable batteries) last?

Only use alkaline batteries. Rechargeable batteries have too high a self-discharge rate and too low a cell voltage. The device will therefore provide an incorrect battery status display when using rechargeable batteries.
I would not use rechargeable (and have not tried). After a couple of years, water started to leak into the battery area so replacing the alkaline batteries was comparatively cheaper.
Also, the alkaline batteries lasted long enough more than a summer season, so my view is you do not need rechargeable batteries.
