Does anyone have experience with attaching hammocks to metal supports (smooth, square from balconies above)? Is it possible to attach the hammock to them with such straps? Or does anyone know of alternative fixing techniques (no racks) which do not require drilling? Maybe some kind of screw/tensioning for the metal support to which the hammock could be attached?

Helpful answer

Hi
We have a children's swing suspended from a square metal beam with straps like this (outside in all weathers, all spring, summer and autumn - for 3 years). However, the edges of this support are rounded, which certainly minimises the risk of the things being worn through.
I think they will hold...but I would check them from time to time and maybe move the position of the straps so that they are not only loaded in one place.

I'm a bit late with my answer, but maybe it will help someone else. It works wonderfully for me on the balcony, I used it to attach my hammock to the wooden balcony above. They are square posts and the straps have now lasted 2 years without any problems, without rubbing off. A recommendation from me!
