Does this Weber conversion kit also fit the Campingaz R907 bottle (VW T5 camper)?

Is this set absolutely necessary? Is it not possible to remove the existing gas regulator and connect a hose directly so that there is only the gas regulator on the gas cylinder? I have the one on the gas cylinder anyway. With the conversion kit we have 2 gas regulators. I never need the traveller with the gas cartridge but always with the large gas cylinder.
