Why did I get new battery without BEM code? It is important for battery adaptation via diagnostics...right?

I also received one without for my two Volkswagen group cars. As I didn't have an AGM before and the information had to be changed, I went to the importer to have it encoded but I had to negotiate quite a bit as they don't do it if the battery wasn't bought from them normally.
