Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion is a standalone game set before the events of Gloomhaven. The game features four new characters: Valrath Red Guard (Tank, Crowd Control), Inox Hatchet (Ranged Damage), Human Voidwarden (Support, Mind Control), and Quatryl Demolitionist (Melee Damage, Obstacle Manipulation), who can also be used in the original Gloomhaven game. It includes 16 types of monsters, including seven new standard monsters and three new bosses, as well as a new 25-part campaign that invites heroes to investigate a mysterious missing persons case in the city. Is it the work of the Vermlings, or is something much more sinister at play? Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion aims to reach a broader audience to make it easier for them to get into the game. All the difficult-to-organize cardboard map pieces have been removed, and players instead play from a scenario book that contains new illustrations for each scenario. The final hurdle for newcomers, learning the game, has also been eased with a simplified rule set and a tutorial consisting of five scenarios that helps new players get started.
