In 1994, Deutsche Bahn AG ordered multiple units with tilting technology from a consortium of companies including Bombardier, Deutscher Waggonbau, DUEWAG, Fiat, and Siemens to connect winding routes to the ICE network. The manufacturing of the individual cars and components took place at various plants. Due to the success of the concept, the order was increased. The success of the train set known as ICE-T has made it an important part of the long-distance fleets. At that time, the still young DB AG group aimed to usher in a new era of long-distance travel with the new ICE-T and ICE 3 trains. Passengers were meant to immediately notice through a new and innovative design that this was a completely new generation of vehicles. Accordingly, the company imposed very few requirements on the designers at that time. Therefore, it is not surprising that the trains of series 411 and 415 are still contemporary vehicles today, having successfully undergone several redesigns. With a maximum speed of 230 km/h, they still meet the demands of the ICE network and enjoy high reliability.
