Product details
The Netherlands shines with many unique features, including the railway in our neighboring country. Early on, it placed great importance on its own vehicle creations, which often made headlines not only at home but also with their unusual designs. When the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) wanted to modernize their intercity services in the 1970s, they developed a very unusual multiple unit train with panoramic driver cabs over the car transitions in collaboration with the German wagon factory Talbot. This gave the ICM, as the NS referred to their new sets, a truly massive appearance. Since passengers could move from one unit to the next at the ends, these modern yet quirky vehicles were called "Koploper." The 144 built "Koploper" soon shaped modern intercity transport in the Netherlands. When Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport was connected to the railway network in 1986, the NS painted two "Koploper" trains in the colors of the two national airlines. ICM-4011 was dressed in the livery of the Royal Dutch Airlines KLM. Due to its bulky nose shape, this train resembled the famous Jumbo jets. ICM 4012, on the other hand, traveled the country in the white-red design of Martinair, also attracting significant attention - like a sleek jetliner on rails.
