With a guarantee and a loan from her then lover, the British mine owner and friend of Balsan, Arthur "Boy "Capel, Chanel opened a hat atelier at 21, rue Cambon in Paris in 1910 and a fashion boutique called CHANEL Modes in the seaside resort of Deauville in 1913. Today, the CHANEL company claims the latter date as its founding date. By 1915, Coco Chanel owned fashion salons in Paris, Deauville and Biarritz.
