Attention! Facebook account compulsion for Oculus!
A week ago on 18 August, an article was published on the Official Oculus Blog informing about an upcoming Facebook account FORCE for Oculus accounts. Summary: 1) From October 2020, new accounts will NOT be able to be created without a Facebook account. 2) In January 2023, ALL Oculus accounts that are not connected to Facebook will no longer be supported. The device will still be usable but full functionality will not be guaranteed without a Facebook account. I bought the Rift S and some games from the official homepage/client and not from Digitec but I wanted to warn all ignorant people here who are interested in an Oculus product and intend to buy it. If you don't have a problem with the terms and conditions (Facebook account) you probably won't have a problem using it, but keep in mind that many if not most users don't want to be forced to use Facebook. Facebook is unscrupulously deceiving its customers and users! Absolutely nobody thinks it's a good idea. An absolute mess in my opinion, I personally will not accept this. You can argue that it won't go through if all users don't like it, but I don't want to be bullied like this and as a paying customer I won't be treated like this. "Today, we're announcing some important updates to how people log into Oculus devices, while still keeping their VR profile. Starting in October 2020: Everyone using an Oculus device for the first time will need to log in with a Facebook account. If you're an existing user and already have an Oculus account, you'll have the option to log in with Facebook and merge your Oculus and Facebook accounts. If you're an existing user and choose not to merge your accounts, you can continue using your Oculus account for two years. After January 1, 2023, we will end support for Oculus accounts. If you choose not to merge your accounts at that time, you can continue using your device, but full functionality will require a Facebook account. We will take steps to allow you to keep using content you have purchased, though we expect some games and apps may no longer work. This could be because they include features that require a Facebook account or because a developer has chosen to no longer support the app or game you purchased. All future unreleased Oculus devices will require a Facebook account, even if you already have an Oculus account. Giving people a single way to log into Oculus-using their Facebook account and password-will make it easier to find, connect, and play with friends in VR...."
