Microsoft presented a spectacular games line-up at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. In addition to the expected titles for Xbox and PC, there were also some surprises and comebacks of games that were thought to be lost.
In recent months, Microsoft has mainly attracted attention with negative headlines. Studio closures and Playstation ports of formerly exclusive Xbox games have left fans worried about the future of the iconic brand
Despite this turbulence, Microsoft showed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 that they have a damn strong line-up in store for the coming months. A total of 30 games for their consoles, PC and Game Pass from a variety of genres were presented:

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 6": espionage thriller in the Gulf War
The next "Call of Duty" promises a gripping single-player campaign with espionage elements set in the early nineties during the Gulf War. Various innovations in the controls are intended to provide more freedom of movement. Some functions and game modes return from old parts. For example, the classic prestige system for highly ranked players, the "Theatre Mode", with which you can record and edit gameplay clips, and a completely revised zombie mode. More information about the multiplayer will be available at the "Call of Duty Next" event on 28 August.

"Gears of War: E-Day": The mother of all cover-based shooters is back
"Gears of War: E-Day" is set 14 years before the first "Gears of War" game. In the role of a young and still inexperienced Marcus Fenix, you experience "Emergence Day" - the day on which the Locust Horde attacked humanity. A new version of "Mad World" was used for the trailer - the song that was already used in the iconic trailer for the original game. "Gears of War: E-Day" is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and, according to developer studio The Coalition, will offer "unprecedented graphical quality".

"Age of Mythology: Retold": Return of the strategy classic
The new edition of the original game from 2002 is set to combine the best elements of the original version with modern RTS design. The game should appeal to both old fans and newcomers. In contrast to the historically accurate "Age of Empires" games, the supernatural world of "Age of Mythology" is teeming with gods and monsters.

"Starfield: Shattered Space": The first story expansion is coming soon
In the "Shattered Space" DLC, you will explore the territory of the "House of Va'Run" faction, where a "terrifying cosmic danger" lurks. Bethesda promises a new planet as well as new weapons, equipment and suits. A free update with minor content and official mod support (also for consoles) is also available now.

"Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024": improved graphics and new missions
The new version of Microsoft's simulator game series is set to be "the most ambitious flight simulator ever". In addition to a large selection of aircraft and revised graphics, there is also a new mission structure. You can pursue different aviation careers. For example, you can fly rescue missions, serve VIPs on charter flights or fly advertising banners over cities.

"Assassin's Creed Shadows": Gameplay impressions of the Japanese historical excursion
Today's "Ubisoft Forward" livestream features a thirteen-minute gameplay walkthrough of "Assassin's Creed Shadows". The Xbox showcase trailer already provides some impressions of the gameplay mix of stealth and action.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle": new cutscene in the Himalayas
After the official announcement in January, "Wolfenstein" developer studio Machine Games shows a new cutscene for their first-person action game. There are also a few new gameplay impressions at the end of the trailer. You won't find a specific release date in the video - but the game is due to be released this year.

"Doom: The Dark Ages": Medieval carnage
The third game in the modern "Doom" trilogy is set in the Middle Ages. Please what? In addition to an extensive arsenal of weapons with the usual crazy weapons, the Doom Slayer can also count on the help of a cybernetic dragon with jet propulsion. Hell yeah!

"Fable": first gameplay of the reboot of the RPG classic
In the new "Fable" trailer, "Forza Horizon" developer studio Playground Games provides the first insights into the gameplay of the RPG. The video captivates with beautiful game environments and the typical British humour of the series.

"Perfect Dark": The reboot of the N64 classic looks promising
Since its announcement in December 2020, the remake of the popular N64 shooter has been quiet. Rumours of a turbulent development have been circulating. Now the reboot is revealed in the first gameplay trailer. The game takes you into a dystopian sci-fi world in which you, as secret agent Joanna Dark, must track down the world's most wanted criminal.

"Avowed": new impressions of the story and gameplay of the colourful action RPG
After the first gameplay impressions in January, the new trailer for Obsidian's action RPG "Avowed" shows even more game scenes from the colourful fantasy world. You explore open game environments that react to your decisions. The trailer also reveals some details about the story.

"State of Decay 3": The zombie survival game lives
After the announcement in 2020, the third instalment in the State of Decay series was quiet for a long time. Now the game from developer studio Undead Labs is revealed in a new trailer. Gameplay excerpts? Not a thing. A release date is also missing. At least: unlike the undead zombie hordes, the game is alive.

"Dragon Age: The Veilguard": a new look for the series
For a long time, the next "Dragon Age" game was known under the title "Dreadwolf". Now it's clear: the new spin-off will be called "The Veilguard". The name change is also accompanied by a drastic change in visual style. With its colourful comic graphics, the game is reminiscent of live service games such as "Fortnite" and "Overwatch". According to insider reports, the game was actually once primarily designed as a multiplayer title. However, developer studio Bioware has already confirmed that it is now definitely a single-player game.

"Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater": Remake of the stealth classic
The previously announced remake of Kojima's classic "Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater" receives its first gameplay trailer. The PS2 game has been completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and looks better than ever.

"Life is Strange: Double Exposure": Max is back!
The mystery adventure series "Life is Strange" is back with a new spin-off. The protagonist from the original game released in 2015 takes on the leading role. Her superpowers (rewinding time) have developed massively since the mysterious events in Arcadia Bay (opening up access to new dimensions). Although she has vowed never to use them again, the death of a close friend forces her to do so once more.

"Nuclear Fallout": a British "Fallout"?
Rebellion, the development studio behind "Sniper Elite", is developing a new game. After a devastating nuclear disaster in the north of England, you return to the quarantine zone after five years. There you will find murderous robots, bloodthirsty zombies and occult sects. An absolutely wild mix of ideas and influences that is sometimes reminiscent of "Fallout".

"Mixtape: Nothing But the Hits": nostalgic music trip into the past
In this game, you accompany three friends to their last party night together. You play various story vignettes from their childhood and teenage years. The gameplay should offer a wide range and surprise you again and again. You'll be accompanied by a phenomenal soundtrack with songs by DEVO, Roxy Music, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and more.

"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33": Turn-based RPG with French flair
In this turn-based role-playing game, you explore a surreal world inspired by France's "Belle Époque" period. The beautiful game is the first project from French studio Sandfall Interactive.

"South of Midnight": Beautiful action-adventure game with stop-motion visuals
After last year's cinematic trailer, we now have the first gameplay for the action-adventure game from "We Happy Few" studio Compulsion Games. The game impresses above all with its unique stop-motion look and wonderfully quirky character and monster design.

"Wuchang: Fallen Feathers": Soulslike in the Ming Dynasty
In this Soulslike, you take on the role of a pirate warrior with amnesia. A mysterious illness turns people into monsters. You roam through landscapes inspired by the late Ming Dynasty and fight against grotesque abominations.

"Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn": Kill the gods
And another Soulslike. In the new game from 'Ashen' developer studio A44, you have to kill overpowering gods to save the world. Your arsenal of weapons consists of guns, axes and magic. The combat system is said to be "fast and brutal". You'll soon be able to see for yourself.

"Fragpunk": a hero shooter with cards
"Fragpunk" is a first-person hero shooter in 5v5 format. The rules for each round change depending on which power-up cards are selected. Sometimes there are oversized heads, other times death itself plays a part.

"Mecha Break": Mecha multiplayer chaos

"World of Warcraft: The War Within": new story expansion for the legendary MMORPG
According to Blizzard, the tenth expansion for "World of Warcraft" will tell the game's most ambitious story to date. It is the first part of the planned "Worldsoul Saga", which is intended to lay the "foundation for the next 20 years of 'World of Warcraft'".
