The new Retros are lighter than the original while maintaining a snug, body-hugging design. The main compartment can now be additionally secured with a zippered lid, which can be stored in the flap when not in use. Each bag features its own compartment (model-dependent) for a tablet or laptop, a rear pass-through that allows the bag to be slid over a trolley handle, and a compressible side pocket for a water bottle. The innovative "Sound Silencer" closure has been revised to allow for even quieter operation.
The Retrospective 7 V2.0 can accommodate a standard DSLR with a 2.8/24-70 mm lens attached, a 2.8/70-200 mm lens not attached, a flash unit, a 10" tablet, and a laptop up to 13". For example, a Nikon D850 with a 2.8/24-70 mm lens, a 2.8/70-200 mm lens, and an SB-5000 AF flash unit. It can also hold a DJI Mavic Pro drone with controller, batteries, and accessories.
"Reflecting on past work helps to be even more creative in the future," says Doug Murdoch, President and Chief Designer of thinkTANK photo. "When we designed the original Retrospective shoulder bag series, we drew inspiration from our personal experiences. We wanted to bring back the classic canvas look that is smooth and durable—but doesn’t look like a camera bag full of expensive gear. The Retrospective V2.0 series combines all of our experience as photographers and product designers into a highly functional yet timeless camera bag.".
