Logitech Z906
I would like to connect the Logitech Speaker system Z906 to my laptop. So far I have simply plugged the green AUX cable into the AUX port of my laptop. I wonder if this is enough or if the sound is not as good as if I connect all three AUX cables to a PC with a sound card? Are there better solutions to connect the speaker system to my laptop?
Hey marius,
a normal laptop only has stereo analogue outputs, 2 channels, on a 3.5 mm jack socket.
The green cable in the supplied cable harness is only a makeshift solution.
A better solution would be a cable with a 3.5 mm stereo jack (in the laptop) and 2 x cinch plugs (RED+WHITE, in the subwoofer) to ANSCHLUSS 2.
Then you have a clean stereo signal and can make a super cool 3D (almost) surround out of it with the z906.
Of course, real surround or even digital is not possible, nor is Dolby or DTS.
In that case, the z906 would be rather underemployed.
A better solution is therefore a USB sound card that produces 5.1.
The cheapest solution: Inline USB sound box 7.1, with Xear software, unfortunately not free of bugs, but suitable for everyday use.
There are also others, CSL, Logilink, and I'm currently using a new Creative X3, a very nice device, also ideal as a laptop supplement.
as a laptop supplement, but more expensive and the software (SoundBlasterCommand) is unfortunately still completely bug-infested.
Operation is very limited, but I also have real surround from the PC, e.g. when playing games, lol.....
Theoretically, you have all the possibilities. I play SC, rFactor2, DCS, Subnautica etc., so good surround is an advantage everywhere.
But I think it's great for music, if you have the right recordings.
Otherwise, to be able to enjoy surround with the z906 system, you also need a surround SOURCE,
e.g. DVD player, Blueray, TV, AV amplifier, etc., preferably with optical output, then you're right with z906.
If your laptop does have an optical (Toslink, SPDIF) output (rather rare), you can also connect the z906 to it.
but you have to configure it quite a bit first... depends on the laptop...
If it has optical, there should also be 3 small jack sockets... however...
I've already had a lot of fun with the z906 speakers, the neighbours have already let me know that after 22:00
headphones would be better... Well...
Good luck and have fun Atze
