Batteries hold on to top spot in our 2024 bestseller rankings

Batteries and rechargeable batteries were the top-selling products on Galaxus and Digitec in 2024, marking a three-year streak at the top of the sales charts. While consumer staples such as nappies and cleaning products climbed their way up the top ten, Lego sets also emerged as one of the year’s winners. Other consumer trends can be observed further down the ranks.

Slotted into everything from nose hair trimmers to baby monitors to remote-control toy cars, batteries and rechargeable batteries yet again proved indispensable in 2024. In fact, they were the best-selling products on Digitec and Galaxus for the third year running.

USB cables took second place in the 2024 bestseller rankings; a result of mobile phone manufacturers’ increasing reluctance to include chargers and USB-C connectors with their products. Last year, Galaxus and Digitec sold 30 per cent more USB cables than in 2023.

Headphones returned to the top ten, with new versions of the Apple AirPods and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds contributing to a 28-per-cent increase in demand.

Drain cleaner ordered to your doorstep

The rising stars of this year’s top ten are nappies (fourth place), cleaning products (eighth place) and Lego (seventh place). Essentially, this means people are increasingly buying everyday consumables online. At the same time, Lego’s benefitting from its sets becoming more and more popular with adults.

Smartphones have made the top ten for the second year in a row. Before their reappearance in the top ten, smartphones had an undisputed run as Galaxus and Digitec’s number-one selling product, before being bumped down the rankings in 2018. Smartphone cases held on to fifth place, with sales increasing by 21 per cent.

Cleaning equipment such as sponges, dusters and pneumatic drain cleaners took eleventh place. Board games, sports nutrition supplements, network cables and cat food also narrowly missed out on a place in the top ten.

Unhealthy products creeping up the rankings

The highest-climbing products in last year’s sales rankings were accessories for changing tyres, such as pressure gauges, valve caps and tyre lubricant. This reflects the fact that more and more Galaxus customers are changing their winter and summer tyres themselves.

Some of the biggest winners in the 2024 bestseller list are things we’re increasingly buying online for the sake of convenience, including heavy groceries such as drinks, vinegar or preserves. When those items hit shopping carts, it’s up to the postie to do the heavy lifting.

Are you surprised by last year’s top ten best-selling products? What do you think will make the list in the next ten years? Which products did you order multiple times last year? Let us know in the comments!
