Suncatchers and eye-catchers: wonderful window decorations
I don’t only find inspiration in furniture fairs. The most beautiful decoration trick I recently discovered came from a friend. Let me share it with you.
I recently visited a friend in Berlin whose apartment looks like an art gallery. Everything’s well thought out; every detail’s creative. One highlight – her window decoration. She has little treasures hanging from almost every window: paper stars, 3D-printed ornaments and suncatchers.

Suncatchers are small pendants or stickers that fan out sunlight, transforming it into rainbows or patterns. My friend, who works as a graphic designer, is convinced you can make almost anything yourself. Needless to say, she made her foil suncatcher herself. But don’t worry, you can also just buy them.
Decoration with a wow effect
What fascinates me so much about this window decoration? It’s rare, making it all the more special. I haven’t had anything like it since my semi-successful window colour artwork I made as a child.

Do it yourself: how to turn your window into an eye-catcher
Back at home in Zurich, I immediately get to work. I hang a small disco ball in the kitchen window and get an immediate wow effect. As soon as the sun shines, dots of light dance through the room. It’s like my window’s having a party.
If you want to try it out too, here are a few tips:
- Choose your decoration carefully. It should be light enough to hang on a thin thread and, of course, you should like looking at it.
- Play with materials. Glass, metal or reflective surfaces catch the light particularly well and create beautiful reflections.
- Think about the location. One accessory per window is often enough to achieve a subtle but striking effect.

Beautiful decorations turn every window into an eye-catcher. Try it out – you’ll be surprised how much pleasure a bit of colour in your windows can bring.
